For the next 7 days I'll be posting one new / recently updated KB article that RIM has posted in the BTSC.

The first one is about enabling contacts within a public folder for access from BlackBerry handhelds. One thing to keep in mind is that you need BlackBerry handheld operating system 5.0 in addition to BES 5.0 or above for this functionality.

... and the article:

KB19111 - How to enable public contact folders for synchronization in the BlackBerry Administration Service

Environment
  • BlackBerry® Enterprise Server version 5.0
Overview

Public folder synchronization can be enabled in the BlackBerry Administration Service using the following steps:
  1. In the BlackBerry Administration Service, on the Servers and components menu, expand BlackBerry solution topology > BlackBerry Domain > Component view > Email.
  2. Click Edit Component.
  3. In the Published public contact folders section, select the public contact folders that you want to permit the BlackBerry smartphone user to synchronize to the BlackBerry smartphone.
  4. Click Save All.
Additional Information

The BlackBerry Service Account (besadmin) should have the Owner permission for all of the public folders.
