Yup ... another series by me
... so really, does anyone use the Duress Notification Policy? ... does anyone even know what it does? Simply put, it's the "someone has a gun to my head and told me to unlock my BlackBerry" policy. The device unlocks and functions normally, but at the same time sends an email to a specified address in IT Policy but doesn't save a copy of the message locally.
I've heard of this implemented so few times and actually have never seen an actual implementation of it used.
I can't even bring myself to posting the actual KB in here, so I'm just going to post a link to it: KB03848 - Configure the Duress Notification Policy.
Now, don't get me wrong ... I think this is awesome functionality, but can't even see 1% of customers using this functionality. This seems like something specifically implemented for a covert government agency ... no?

If memory serves this is where you put the first letter of your password at the end of the password entry on the device, it unlocks the handset, but sends a notificatrion email to a designated contact. Great idea, but who's going to remember to do it, and how are you going to help the person if you receive the duress notification!!!!Posted 08-19-2009 at 04:35 AM by Si
