Hey folks ... I'm back for regular posting now
Given that today is the 1 year anniversary of Port3101 I figured I'd start back.
Life / etc took a front seat and now I've got that juggling act a little bit better under control.
Anyhoo, for my first post back I'll reference something previously mentioned; Managing your BES / Exchange Mappings.
As of BES 4.1 SP4 you've had the ability to control the number of user accounts that the BlackBerry Dispatcher assigns to the BlackBerry Messaging Agent. Per the 4.1 SP4 Release notes ...
In BlackBerry Enterprise Server Version 4.1 and later, when the BlackBerry Dispatcher ran a server optimization task that assigned a maximum number of user accounts to the BlackBerry Messaging Agent at a time, your BlackBerry Enterprise Server performance might have been affected. By default, the BlackBerry Dispatcher assigned up to 500 user accounts to the BlackBerry Messaging Agent at a time. You could not change the default value.
In BlackBerry Enterprise Server Version 4.1 SP4, to improve BlackBerry Enterprise Server performance, you can specify the maximum number of user accounts that the BlackBerry Dispatcher assigns to the BlackBerry Messaging Agent at a time. Perform the following actions:
I was just with a customer and in addition to the NumAgents key changing, made a recommendation to have them look at this key too. Out of the box BES is very vanilla ... with just a few tweaks you can get a lot more out of your server.
Stay tuned for the daily posts and if you've got any ideas / requests for info send them to hdawg@port3101.org; thanks!

- On the computer that hosts the BlackBerry Dispatcher, start the Registry Editor.
- In the left pane, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\Dispatcher.
- Right-click the MaxUsersPerAgent value (or create it as a DWORD (making sure you enter numbers with decimal selected and not hexadecimal), and click Modify.
- In the Value data field, type the maximum number of users that the BlackBerry Dispatcher assigns to the BlackBerry Messaging Agent. The default is 500.
- Click OK.
- Restart the BES.
