BlackBerry icon beside the 3G network indicator will not reappear after powering off

RIM posted a KB titled: BlackBerry icon beside the 3G network indicator will not reappear after powering off ... I currently have a 9700 on at&t with this OS version and don't have the problem described.
Apparently the 3GBB logo -
doesn't show up after a restart of the device.
That said, I'd avoid 5.0.0.442 from Fastlink Jordan like the plague. I installed it, and couldn't get the device to properly start up; talk about a waste of time playing around with the OS.
