Welcome to Part 3 of at least a 20 part series looking at the BES logs. (Part 2)
In this post we'll look at the Backup Connector Log (CBCK). As one of the most straightforward logs in BES it is actually easy to read.
The CBCK log is data generated from the Automatic Wireless Backup function of BES. By default this functionality is enabled for all users, and is what allows you to wipe and reactivate a device without losing a whole slew of customizations ... unless you remove a user from the BES. Data backed up through Automatic Wireless Backup is restored to a handheld in Phase 4 Part 6 of Enterprise Activation.
Periodic updates are done through the BlackBerry Synchronization Service ... here's snip (in plain English) of what is going on:
Having this split off from the BlackBerry Synchronization Service (SYNC) log allows for this to be a usable data source for potential troubleshooting and also allows one less thing to get pumped into the SYNC log.
One thing to remember about Automatic Wireless Backup: If you remove a user from a BES all of their data backed up by Automatic Wireless Backup is also removed. Settings / icon positions / etc ... keep this in mind and be cautious before you remove a user from a BES.
If you've got any questions about other specific entries in the CBCK log feel free to post a question / comment in response to this post, or in the forum.
Tomorrow, in Part 4, we'll hit the Management Connector (CMNG) log
