Force message prepopulation for all users on a BlackBerry Enterprise Server

I see this time and time again. A user is having problems with his device so after some basic troubleshooting you decide to wipe and reactivate the device ...
You don't remove the user from the BES because you don't want to have to setup Groups / IT Policy / Software Configuration ... and you don't want to lose Automatic Wireless Backup data ... but the user wants his messages back.
Well, as we all know, there is no way to guarantee you'll get all of your messages on an Enterprise Activation. If you remove / re-add the user to the BES you can get up to 750 messages within the past 14 days ... but then you've got to deal with reconfiguring the user and losing the Automatic Wireless Backup data. To get around this problem there is a registry key that you can utilize that will force message prepopulation with every Enterprise Activation, regardless if the user is a new add or a current user reactivating.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\Agents]
"ForceMsgPrepopOnActivation"=dword:00000001
"ForceMsgPrepopDays"=dword:0000000e
"ForceMsgPrepopMessages"=dword:000002ee
The high limits for this setting are the same as with standard prepopulation (14 days or 750 messages) and are set in hex in the above example).
This implementation is supported with both Domino and Exchange BES 4.0 SP3 HF2 or later.

Hey HDAWG
On Windows 2008 I don't see the above keys in HKLM, I only see it in the HKEY Current User Hive. I made the change there anyway and will test in a moment. Do you know about Windows 2008 and if that is correct? My carrier support have never heard of this option, can you believe it, so I sent them the RIM article also.Posted 12-15-2009 at 11:39 AM by millardus
