Upgrading to BES 5.0 and want to do a database consolidation ??? ... you're not alone ... so RIM has built the BlackBerry Enterprise Transporter (BET).

Personally, I really dislike the idea of consolidating / changing databases due to the problems with RIM's previous product DBMerge ... but many people have been successful with the BET. So the BET is great, but there are some limits ... specifically that certain handheld OS versions can't handle the move.

As a part of the validation process of the move the BET verifies that an IT policy can be applied to a BlackBerry device; however, this verification might not be possible in one of the following scenarios:
  • BlackBerry device is running an unspecified version of the BlackBerry® Device Software
  • BlackBerry device is operating on BlackBerry Device Software version 4.0.2, and the ITPolicyKeyMapping table does not exist
  • BlackBerry device is operating on BlackBerry Device Software version 4.3.0
Apparently the 4.3 platform did not have the ability to store more than one IT policy on the device at once, whereas the others do (this is not a visible feature). I'm not sure why it was the only OS since 4.0.2 that has been limited in this regard, but nevertheless... (Thanks Otto!)
