YouMail .96.1 hosed my Bold!

Posted 09-17-2009 at 05:00 AM by hdawg (hdawg's BES blog)

For the first time, I've been victim to an application wreaking havoc on my device.

I've been using YouMail for a while now ... probably 2 years at this point. I recently started using the handheld app, and last week upgraded to the newest version available (0.96.1) ... and it was a horrible decision.

It took me 5 days to figure out what the heck was going on ... and once I removed the app all was well.

Symptoms:
  1. Device running slow
  2. Device

More on Firewall and connection requirements for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server

Tags bes, firewall

From last week ... Firewall and connection requirements for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server ... I know I know, we're sick of the KB articles hdawg ... but I never get sick of them; especially when there is actually something cool in one of them.

Yes, I posted last week on this same topic, but there was an update and a sweet one at that, specifically for those in EMEA:

Ideally, complete IP address ranges should be allowed through your corporate firewall. If your BlackBerry...

Firewall and connection requirements for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server

I did a post a while back on Firewall and connection requirements for the BlackBerry Internet Service ... but I still constantly see / hear people asking questions about what is required for BES.

Unfortunately the one recurring theme is people opening port 3101 inbound and I just shake my head. If you read the basic installation documentation you'll see this isn't needed and in fact makes your environment less secure and gives the appearance that BES is less secure as it would seem...

Some things to keep in mind about Exchange 2007 from Microsoft:
  • Exchange Server 2003 is not supported in Active Directory environments whose domain/forest functional levels have been raised beyond Windows Server 2003. However,

BES Performance Benchmarking

Posted 09-09-2009 at 05:00 AM by hdawg (hdawg's BES blog)

My buddy Otto sent me a link to the BES 5.0 Performance Benchmarking Guide.

I'm working on a multi-part post on performance comparing 4.x and 5.x performance ... rest assured there will be plenty of references to this document.

Good points on Virtualization, Databases, and most importantly a comparison of 4.x to 5.x.

Until then, give it a look.
