BES Logs ... What's in them? Part 16 of 20 (Pending.exe BRK Tool)

Posted 07-11-2009 at 04:00 AM by hdawg (hdawg's BES blog)

Welcome to Part 16 of the 20 part series looking at the BES logs (Part 15) ... the BRK Tool Pending.exe.

No surprise here, but that the Pending.exe tool tracks user accounts with a pending count that is higher than the pending count specified.

Phone number or provider information fields do not populate in BlackBerry Manager

Posted 07-10-2009 at 08:45 AM by hdawg (hdawg's BES blog)

<content> To resolve this issue, delete and undelete the Desktop [SYNC] service book on the BlackBerry smartphone. Have each BlackBerry smartphone user complete the following steps:
  1. Go to Options> Advanced Options> Service Book and highlight

Updated 07-12-2009 at 09:49 AM by hdawg

Welcome to Part 15 of the 20 part series looking at the BES logs (Part 14) ... the BRK Tool OutOfCoverage.exe (OOC).

Simply put, the OutofCoverage.exe BRK tool checks for BlackBerry users that do not send or receive data in a specified period of time. To utilize OOC you need only the BlackBerry Dispatcher log and the tool itself. The OOC tool parses the DISP log, and while I can't speak to the exact logic it uses when parsing I can tell you how the output it creates correlates to...

Identify Users with Content Encryption Enabled

Posted 07-09-2009 at 10:17 PM by hdawg (hdawg's BES blog)

amadru @ BBF posted and then answered his own question about locating users with content protection enabled (after a smart call to T-Support).

Being inspired by the information provided, I decided to create a SQL script to give a list of users that have content protection enabled.

Here's amadru's info:

BES Logs ... What's in them? Part 14 of 20 (PhoneCall/PIN/SMS logs)

Posted 07-09-2009 at 04:00 AM by hdawg (hdawg's BES blog)

Welcome to Part 14 of the 20 part series looking at the BES logs (Part 13) ... the BlackBerry Phone / SMS / PIN logs.

If you're still running BES 4.0.x or older you've got no idea about these ... you need to look at upgrading anyway!

The PhoneCall/PIN/SMS logs (named below) are all a function of the BlackBerry Synchronization Service.
  • PhoneCallLog_20090601.CSV
  • PINLog_20090601.CSV
  • SMSLog_20090601.CSV
By default logging for phone calls are enabled, however PIN...
