Apple iOS4 Crashing Exchange Servers

Okay, admittedly, this is not a BlackBerry-related post, but it is useful for Exchange engineers all the same.
iOS 4: Exchange Mail, Contacts, or Calendars may not sync after update
It seems that Apple's recent release of iOS4 and the "revolutionary" iPhone 4 has caused a "small" problem for enterprises running Exchange. In essence, the iOS4-based device becomes a drone in a DDoS attack against the Exchange mail servers. This has caused the Exchange servers to exhaust resources and ultimately crash, in some (most?) cases.
There is a client-based fix. Of course, this is only as good as your ability to enforce the installation. For all of you administrators and IT shops that allow iPhone and iPod Touch mobile devices on your Exchange server via ActiveSync, be sure to distribute this update to your users. Also, if you have a means (creative or not) of validating the patch was actually installed on the devices and possibly a means to enforce it, feel free to respond to this blog post.

I guess it crashed your front-end servers and not your mailbox servers. Right?Posted 07-01-2010 at 05:05 AM by Abe
